Day Center Programs

In order to keep older adults in the community for as long as possible, day center consultations and support services may be needed. TBS emphasizes the notion that if an individual stays involved in appropriate daily routines, challenging behaviors will decrease. Although behavioral programs are tailored to the individual, plans often involve training in the following components:

Communication
Difficulties in communication occur at all stages of dementia. Communication is vital to understanding the needs of individuals. Practice your approaches in behavioral skills training to increase your communication skills.

Free Time Activities
Keeping the individual engaged during free time is essential when managing challenging behaviors. Learn how to identify preferences and maintain participation.

Daily Routines
Keeping an individual involved in familiar daily routines (e.g., grooming, socializing, housework) is important. Learn the techniques to modify routines and preserve these skills.

Behavior Management Skills
Learn how to identify a problem, assess the environmental triggers and rewards, and implement prompting strategies.
